| CONGRATULATIONS TO COLCHESTER’S YOUNGEST PLAYERS | ||||||||||||||||
| Two teams of Under 9s travelled to Bishops Stortford last weekend to compete in the Essex League Finals, against Upminster, Old Loughtonians, Blue Hornets, Brentwood, Saffron Walden and Bishops Stortford. For many players this was their first experience of playing competitive hockey after joining the club during this season. | ||||||||||||||||
| Together the teams managed a top of the league performance of eight wins and two draws, and finished as the top two teams of the tournament. Well done to all the young players and a big thank you to the parents and Kate Bagley for their support and help on the day. | ||||||||||||||||
| Colchester Sharks | ||||||||||||||||
| Played 5, Won 4, Drew 1, Scored 18, Conceded 1. | ||||||||||||||||
| Colchester Sharks began the day with a 1-0 win over Upminster 2s, and then faced Old Loughtonians. The young Colchester team fought hard against a much larger and more experienced team, and managed to come away with a much deserved 1-1 draw. With team work developing and confidence bubbling, the Sharks then beat Blue Hornets 6-0. The team play by Pandora, Viviane and Esmae was very impressive and resulted in well taken goals. The fourth game against Upminster 1s saw an equally impressive 4-0 victory with Toby and Wilf pushing forward to aid the attack. The Sharks, thoroughly enjoying their hockey then finished the day with an emphatic 6-0 victory against Saffron Walden. The leading goal scorers in the team were Pandora Mann, Viviane Ghiglino and Esmae McGregor. Toby Ranson and Wilf Mortimer were superb in defence all day, shown by only one goal conceded all day. Maddy Mann and Sophie Harris made superb debuts into the team, showing great confidence playing alongside older children. Well done the Sharks! | ||||||||||||||||
| Colchester Dragons | ||||||||||||||||
| Played 5, Won 4, Drew 1, Scored 15, Conceded 2. | ||||||||||||||||
| Colchester Dragons also began the day with a confident performance beating Brentwood 1-0, and going on to beat Bishops Stortford 2-0. Gracie Arulampalam in defence looked confident and kept the ball firmly out of our half in both games, while Maddy Wallace looked strong in the midfield. A much harder game against Upminster 2s resulted in a 1-1 draw, with much praise to Noah Arulampalam for his hard work and determination. The team then found it’s scoring tactic through the super-fast Becky Howe, who pounced on every ball and found the goal on every opportunity. The Dragons beat Blue Hornets 7-0 and finished the day with a much deserved 4-1 victory over Old Loughts. | ||||||||||||||||
| Becky Howe was the leading goal scorer, but Maddy Wallace, Gracie Arulampalam and Alistair Wainford all scored great goals. The defence were superb with the combination of Noah and Gracie Arulampalam, supported by the young and new Charlotte Cathcart. Charlotte Norman made a great debut, and showed good confidence and determination in places throughout the day. Well done the Dragons! | ||||||||||||||||
