Essex Rosebowl winners 2009

Colchester Ladies 2^nd XI made an outstanding start to the season winning the Essex Rosebowl competition Sunday 6 September, competing against many teams playing from leagues higher than themselves.

They started well in their group with a confident 3-0 win against Redbridge and Ilford. They then went on to draw 1-1 both with Havering and Wapping, then went on to win their group with an exciting 2-1 finish against Waltham Forest .

In the final they met Crostyx, who went ahead in the first half with a goal from a penalty corner. Colchester battled hard and equalised also with a goal from a penalty corner, from an outstanding strike by Emma Sanford during the second half.

There were no further goals so the tournament culminated in penalty flicks. Colchester rose to the occasion with Emma Sanford , George Wright, Angela Finn and Kelly Gibbs all scoring from the P spot. A fifth shot was not required due to excellent goal keeping from Angharad Thomas who saved two of Crostyx shots. Other goal scorers throughout the day included: Karen Harris , Kate Bagley, Henri Green, Michelle Dixey and Susie Bulman.
