13 April 2007: Congratulations to Terry Howlett who has been picked to play for the England Grand Masters in the European Championships to be held in June at Canterbury.
This selection makes it three European Championships in a row for the Colchester Vets player, following Gold medals in Rotterdam in 2005 and Turin in 2006.
Terry was very keen to make this season's squad, but knew selection would be tough as several talented players had recently qualified to play in the over 60's category. Following trials at Oxford, Southampton, Bristol and Tring, a final squad was selected for the International against Scotland at Manchester. An encouraging performance saw England 6-0 winners and a solid performance at left defence by Terry was enough for inclusion in the final squad for the Europeans.
England will be out to retain their title, but know that Germany and Holland will provide the strongest challenge. It was Germany that stole the gold medal at the World Cup in September when they defeated England 3-1 in the final.
The next three months will provide a testing schedule, with warm-up games at Ipswich, Chelmsford, Slough, Manchester and Guilford, before the Championships begin on June 21st.

1 April 2007: Women's Vets finished third in the East Women's Vets Tournament.

Colchester Vets represented Essex in the regional tournament, having beaten Havering and Old Loughts in March. The five teams playing were: Colchester (Essex), last year's regional winners Ipswich and East Suffolk (Suffolk), Cambridge City (Cambs), Sevenoaks (Kent) and St Albans (Herts). Norfolk dropped out.
Colchester beat Ipswich and St Albans. However, they lost to Sevenoaks and Cambridge and finished 3rd. Cambridge came first and will represent East in the Nationals at Chelmsford, Sunday 22 April.
