25 June 2007: Terry Howlett helped the Grand Masters (England Over 60s) win the Hockey European Cup at Canterbury, for the third year in a row.
Having won the title at Rotterdam in 2005 and Turin in 2006, expectations in the England camp were high. Terry, playing at left defence, had an injury scare going into the tournament, when he broke a bone in his left hand following a freak boating accident, but painkillers before each match did the trick and saw him play a pivotal role in every game.
On Friday 22 June, England beat Holland 1-0 in a very tight game. A great penalty save from their keeper late in the game denied the Dutch an equalizer. On Saturday, England demolished Italy 6-0 in the morning and Scotland 7-0 in the afternoon.
On Sunday, the finale was a winner-takes-all match of England v Germany. England led 1-0 at half-time, doubled their lead halfway through the second half, only to concede a needless goal shortly after. With the Germans taking heart from this, England had to dig deep and with minutes to go, scored from a superb deflection.
This 3 -1 victory partially made up for the defeat England suffered at the hands of the Germans during The World Cup in Germany last year and makes the mouth watering opportunity of European Cup in Barcelona and World Cup in China in 2008 a tremendous incentive for Terry to stay fit and focused.

25 June 2007: Jogging training has commenced on Monday nights at 7.30. Meet at the garrison swimming pool. Everyone is welcome. Watch this space for confirmation of summer training starting date.
