21 July 2010: The Annual General Meeting of Colchester Hockey Club was held Tuesday 20 July. Due to the changeover of webmaster, the minutes will not be posted until next week. However, they will possibly be emailed to the membership later in the week.

13 July 2010: Former CHC player Geoff Nolan has died. He also played hockey for the Sunday Colchester Exiles and Phoenix Hockey Clubs during the 50s and 60s. The funeral will be held on Wednesday 14 July.

28 June 2010: Congratulations to CHC Men's 3rd's player Andy Bryant who helped the Ministry of Defence national hockey team secure victory in the annual Hancock and Evans Cup (for Civil Service Departments). To read a report and see photos, click here.

22 June 2010: The Annual General Meeting of Colchester Hockey Club will be held Tuesday 20 July at the Castle Park Pavilion clubhouse, 7:30 for 7:45 pm start. All members are invited to attend. This will be followed by the awards presentation. The Agenda can be viewed on the About Us Minutes page.

14 June 2010: The date for the AGM and Awards night is being finalised at the moment. As 28 days notice is needed for announcing the date, expect it to be held mid to late July. There are a number of committee positions becoming vacant and we need people to step forward and help run the club for everyone's benefit.

10 May 2010: John Thorogood, a long-time member of the club and umpire, passed away Wednesday 28 April. The funeral will be held today at Colchester Crematorium.

31 March 2010: Our Under 12 boys qualified for the regional finals on Sunday and the Under 12 girls came third in the Essex Mini Championships. Congratulations! To read the report and see a photo, visit the Junior page.

29 March 2010: All the team's final results for the season can be viewed on the Teams page (except for Men's 1st who still have one more game to play 10th April).

22 March 2010: Our Under 10 girls' team finished as silver medalists in the Essex Under 10 Clubs Championships 21 March. The team played some fantastic hockey, beating Upminster A and B, Old Loughtonians and Blue Hornets into second place and only narrowly missing out to Chelmsford HC on the opportunity to represent Essex at the East Championships.

The girls, Katie Cook (GK), Ruby Blower (Captain), Meg Wall-Peters, Francesca Harley, Ellie Benfield, Fenella Stuart, Olivia Saleh, Rachel Harvey and Tilly Arulampulam played consistently well all day and were a credit to the club.

Training for Men's 1st will continue 31 March and 7 April due to postponed matches. If your team still has matches Saturday 27, check with your captain whether training will be on this week.

For those unable to attend the funeral of Peggy Nisbet MBE, a copy of an address was posted on the Essex website.

15 March 2010: There will be a Level 1 Assistant Coach Course at University Essex run over three days (13 and 20 June, and 4 July) for those aged 16 and over. For more information and a form contact the Secretary.

05 March 2010: There is no U13 tournament at IES this Sunday 07 March. It will be normal training at the Garrison instead.

01 March 2010: England Hockey have announced that the FIH World Cup matches (which started yesterday) can be seen on TV for free. To check the stations, visit the England news website.

16 February 2010: The East League Rules are being rewritten for clarity following comments made by various clubs. A draft can be viewed on the East league page

The funeral for Peggy Nisbet MBE will be held in Billericay, Thursday 25 February. Life Member Christine Andrews hopes to attend on behalf of the club.

02 February 2010: It was announced on the ECHA website that Peggy Nisbet MBE has died. She was the longest serving official of both the Essex Women's Hockey Association and ECHA.

15 January 2010: The next Essex Level 1 umpiring course is Sunday 07 March at Witham Hockey Club. For more information, contact the Secretary.

15 January 2010: Matches will be played at the Garrison tomorrow, Saturday 16 January.

08 January 2010: The following matches have been cancelled due to snow: CHC Ladies' 3rds v Southend (Garrison), CHC Ladies' 2nds v Old Loughts (away), Old Boys v 2009 Men's 1st XI (Garrison). The league matches will probably be played on the slip date in February.

Sunday Junior sessions are cancelled at the garrison 10 January.

Anyone involved in the Essex Development Day on Sunday 10 January pleas note it has been postponed until Sunday 24 January. The times for each age group are still the same.

There will be a Mini Hockey Tournament for year 7/8 at the University of Essex, 4-6pm, Tuesday 02 February being organised by Essex Schools competition. We have been asked if we could help provide umpires (they are also interested in those who need to be assessed and could arrange for that). Please contact the Secretary ASAP.

04 January 2010: Monday (tonight) night training is cancelled due to snow. Wednesday's training is likely to be cancelled along with Thursday's. With snow possible later in the week and freezing temperatures, Saturday's games may be postponed. Keep checking the website or contact your captain later in the week.

23 December 2009: Well done to those who struggled through the snow and ice to make it to the club social at the clubhouse on Saturday 19 December. Big thanks to Andrew St Ledger's wife and mother-in-law who provided lovely hot food and to Sarah Rose for running the bar.

Training for all seniors will resume the week of Monday 04 January 2010, with games on Saturday 09.

Colchester Hockey Club has secured additional sponsorship from Hills Residential for the development of the Junior section. Hills Residential has a long association with Colchester Hockey Club and has sponsored the senior side for the last nine seasons. 

Mersea Homes continues to sponsor the Senior side, stating: "We recognize that Colchester Hockey Club are the hockey leaders in N.E. Essex, and at Mersea Homes we are pleased to support a club who are progressive, and  provide its playing members great opportunities from the senior sides down to junior levels. By running five men’s and three ladies’ senior teams on Saturdays, backed by regular midweek coaching sessions overseen by qualified coaches, there is a natural development programme to take the Club forwards.”  Many of the U18s breaking into the senior teams came thorough the Sunday Junior sessions and the club looks forward to seeing that continue.

18 December 2009: Due to snow, the hockey part of Club Games is off but there will still be food, socialising and the 200 Club draw at the clubhouse Saturday 19 December from 3 p.m. All for the bargain price of £3!

11 December 2009: Holiday training: There will be no senior men's and ladies' training next week Monday 14, Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 December. However there will be a CHC men's match next  Monday 14 December in lieu. Training for all seniors will resume the week of Monday 04 January 2010. 

Juniors are asked to bring their parents and grandparents to the last session before Christmas, Sunday 13 December. See Junior page for more information.

30 November 2009: The club is looking for a coach for the ladies' section on Thursdays from January, due to work commitments of the current coach, Wayne. We welcome all enquiries from experienced coaches and those working towards coaching qualifications. For more details, contact the Secretary: 01206 842404 (h) or email secretary@colchesterhc.org.uk.

Club Games will take place Saturday 19 December at the Garrison, 12-3pm. Teams will be single sex (numbers dependant) and play in a round robin format. Hot teas and socialising will take place at the Clubhouse afterwards from about 4pm. £10 or £5 to play/eat only. Please let your captain know if you want to play, eat or both!

09 November 2009: As the halfway point to the season approaches, congratulations to Ladies' 2nds player Minal Patel who is currently leading the Essex Premier top goalscorers with 14 to her credit (and is the top goalscorer for the entire EWHA at present!).

26 October 2009: Thanks to Rosey and Crombie for organising the Quiz Night on Saturday. £120 was raised for the club. When we have our next social activity, spread the word so we can help support the club!

19 October 2009: A word form the Club Chairman: We need more players! As you may be aware when reading the results this week, we have had to concede two men's matches, Men's 4ths and 5ths. If any of our teams concede four matches during the season, they are expelled from the league and their participation in the following season is not guaranteed. If you know of any former players or friends who are interested in playing, encourage them to come along to swell the ranks and ensure we have eight complete league teams each week.

The Sunday Mixed team still needs a couple more players (both men and ladies) and an umpire for the match at the Garrison, meet at 12:30 for 13:00 pushback. Trials for East Men's Senior Masters Over 50s Squad for the England Divisional Tournament in Nottingham 2010 will be held early next year. 13 October 2009: Don't forget the Club Quiz Night, Saturday 24 October at the clubhouse, 7:30 pm start. £3 per person with a maximum of five per team. The 'Timmy Time' team won the last quiz - who will win this time? It's no longer the glory of winning: first prize is £25! Please bring a raffle prize.

12 October 2009: Commiserations to the Ladies' 1st who were knocked out of the EH Women's Cup 3-0 by St Albans. However, it was useful experience playing against a team who play in the England Hockey League!

07 October 2009: The Newmarket U9 and U11 Junior Tournament has been postponed this Sunday 11 October due to problems with the pitch. It will now be played on Sunday 06 December instead. There will now be a normal practice at the Garrison this Sunday for all ages (U7, U9, U11 and U13).

05 October 2009: There will be a Quiz Night at the clubhouse, Saturday 24 October, with quiz master Ben Mynott. More details to follow soon.

Well done to the Men's Vintage team who beat Bury St Edmund's 3-0 to progress to Round 2 of the EH Masters Over 50 Cup.

15 September 2009: This Saturday 19 September is the start of the ladies' season. There is also another men's pre-season games straight after the Ladies' 1sts game, 13:30 for 14:00 pushback. This is for all potential Men's 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, and 5ths players.

Monday team training
begins 08 September, 19:30-21:00. It is aimed at Men's 3rds, 4ths, 5ths and colts (U17s, U15s) but all members are welcome to attend.

Tony 'Doc' Elston will be coaching the men's teams (with assistants) and Wayne Masters will be coaching the ladies' teams.

17 August 2009: Colchester Hockey Club Day will be Saturday 05 September at the Garrison. There will be refreshments and the day will not interfere with the Colchester Carnival which starts at Abbey Field from 18:30. Times as follows:

19 July 2009: A new season and a re-vamped website! There are some pages still under construction and the team pages are awaiting the league fixtures, but otherwise all the information you should need about the club ought to be found easily.

Don't forget club training is on Wednesdays 19:00-21:00 at the Garrison throughout July and August. All players, new and old, male and female, are welcome to come along and re-gain their match fitness and skills!
