Some of you have been asking what is happening regarding summer league this year
We have, after a number of years, decided as a club not to enter Maldon this year. The standard is not great, so as a committee decision we have decided to enter two teams into Ipswich this year. The normal team will be run by Karen Harris and will be playing in Division 1 on a Thursday evening. This is typically targetted at current/future ladies 1st and 2nd team players. If you are interested in playing and have not already been contacted, please approach Karen Harris directly, although clearly we may not be able to accomodate all.
The second team we have entered is a Development side playing in a Development League on a Tuesday evening. We have made this decision to try and offer some of our younger players who did not get competitive hockey during the season, first option to play Summer League. Clearly we will need some senior players too in our efforts to provide a balanced side to compete. We would expect these to be from the 3rd and 4th team. If you are interested in playing Summer League, the first games are on Tuesday and Thursday next week (week commencing 30th April).
Please contact me (ASAP) in the first instance if you are interested in playing in the Development Side (first game 1st May) - email@example.com
Going forward this Development side will need someone to step up and run it each week - please email me if you are prepared to help.
NB. Any queries on the above, please contact me, not Crossie !!!

Essex Hockey are running another Young Umpire Course on 18th Feb at Old Loughts
As it stands Essex have over 100 junior umpires who have completed this or a similar course and have then gone on to do the Level 1 and in some cases, even their Level 2 umpiring badge.
This course is a great way to get you started!!
Who is it for?
People who are keen to umpire that are of secondary school age (11-16)
When is it?
18th February 2018, All day starting at 9:30
Where is it?
Old Loughts (Roding Sports Centre Luxborough Lane, Chigwell, IG7 5AB)
How much is it?
£20 which includes a whistle and 1 year membership to Essex Hockey Umpires Association
What do I get out of it?
You will be able to umpire In2 hockey which is 7 a-side. Don't worry, you wont be asked to umpire for the adult sides on a Saturday just yet. You will be able to umpire the junior games within your club which are usually on Sundays (U10/U12). For umpires who want to progress further and are capable, you can choose to be part of the Essex umpiring team who umpire county junior tournaments e.g. Academy centres and then from there progress into the East to umpire their juniors tournaments.
What do I need?
Notepad and pen, refreshments for the day including plenty of water and your playing kit. Playing kit is needed because you will play some small sided games so that others can practise their umpiring. Everyone will get plenty of opportunities throughout the day. If due to injury, you can't play but are still able to move around a pitch and blow the whistle, that's not a problem, just let us know.
If you want to sign up to this course, please register using the following link.
